ha•ku (hä'kōō) v: Quechua: "Let's Go!"
|
All employees of Haku Trek, including guides and cooks, are native members of the San Isidro de Chicón community. Haku Trek partners with the NGO ProPeru as part of a larger eco-tourism project whose goal is to promote environmentally sustainable economic development in rural mountain communities in the Sacred Valley. Unfortunately, the native queuñal forests are an obvious source of firewood for the inhabitants of high altitude villages like Chicón, making them some of the most endangered areas in the Andes. Haku Trek hopes to halt this deforestation by providing an alternate income source for the inhabitants of Chicón. Additionally, all profits generated from Haku Trek go toward the reforestation of the Chicón valley and its queuñal forests as well as other community projects. For more information about the aspirations of Haku Trek, visit our mission page. Come enjoy all that Chicón has to offer. Book a trek today!
